Meet the Farmers
We're Reg & Katie, husband/wife team and caretakers of the Narrows Edge Crew. We've been married for over 20 years and are the parents of 2 wonderful teenage boys.
Being Elk Farmers was not always in our plans, but life is full of surprises and we are ready to take the bull by the horns (pun intended) and run with all of the adventures this journey has to offer.

Our Story
As a 4th generation farmer, Reg spent most of his life as a dairy farmer. Through this experience he learned the art of herdsmanship, and how to care for large animals, as well as the joy that comes from raising them. In 2012 we acquired more land and chose to transition the farm into an exclusive cash cropping operation. As the saying goes "The grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence" and the years without livestock made it clear to us that cash cropping was not where our passion lies. Occasionally during that time period, we considered getting livestock again, even joking in 2021 about getting a few elk, but after researching it and realizing the dauting amount of work it would take to start an elk herd we quickly put that idea to rest.
In August '22 our lives came to a cross roads and we needed to make some decisions about our future and fast. The idea of elk came bubbling back to the surface, and while the work to accomplish it had not become any less daunting, we knew if we didn't do it now we never would. On top of that, to our surprise and delight, we were given the opportunity to purchase part of a well established herd with exceptional genetics. You can call it a leap of faith, or a midlife crisis, but we immediately said yes and began a whirlwind year of turning our lives and farm upside down in order to get everything ready.
The herd arrived in August '23, and we haven't looked back. Life now feels "right" again, and we are soaking up every moment raising our animals, and learning to find our joy again. Besides the herd, we continue to grow crops, but in a smaller way, with a focus on growing elk feed.
